According to a new survey by Esure Britons hoard old and obsolete items like no-one else.
It appears that almost three hundred million electrical items lay unwanted in our homes, with mobile phones, VHS video recorders and regular, non-digital, cameras topping the list. As manufacturers bring out new products so we as a nation keep buying them, but don’t dispose of the old ones, leading to the situation we are in now. Looking at video recorders alone, there are an estimated twenty-seven million of them sat in corners, unused but operational, according to the Esure survey.
From an insurance perspective it is important for people to more accurately assess the value of goods in their property to ensure they are not underinsured. Esure commissioned this survey to highlight just how much we have tucked away and forgotten.
