Norwich Union Say CCTV Will Not Necessarily Reduce Home Insurance Premiums
Published: 06/09/08
Customers of Norwich Union are being advised to consider carefully the proposed benefits of CCTV. They are certainly a good security feature but consumers should not expect to automatically receive a discount on their home insurance premium from installing it.
The demand for CCTV systems in domestic situations has increased significantly recently, with a major electrical retailer seeing year on year demand up by 70 percent. There are now close to a hundred different systems available say Norwich Union, at a variety of price points, all vying for the consumers attention. However, there are question marks over whether they actually make a home safer and less of a target.
Evidence is sketchy at best on this point though the future may show it to be of value. In the meantime Norwich Union advise installing a burglar alarm and good quality locks that have been approved. These sort of actions can gain a lower home insurance premium thanks to their effectiveness being proven.
